Sewing Machine Basics

Parts Of Sewing Machine

Many people have sewing machines.  Whether they are for personal use such as mending clothes and creating craft projects or for commercial use to create goods for sale or to tailor expensive suits, they are all similar in nature.  Most sewing machines when purchased new come with manuals for operation and various supplies.  A diagram of the Parts Of Sewing Machine is useful and is usually included in the manual.

Some Parts Of Sewing Machine that may be listed in the parts diagram are the bobbins, foot pedal, hand wheel, light, motor and the power cord.  Specialty sewing machines such as the Singer quantumlock 5 thread serger have additional parts such as multiple types of pressure feet for different needs.  Other types of sewing machines may have a digital panel that controls the machine as well, such as the Pfaff 7550.

Purchasing a sewing machine is just like any other expensive investment.  Before looking at different sewing machines, decide on what your basic needs are.  If you are going to be doing a lot of hem work, such as at a tailor shop, a serger is your best bet, like the Juki 644D machine with adjustable stitch length and width.  For light sewing, a basic machine that has easy threading is a good bet.  For more elaborate projects or heavy amounts of work, a more sturdy machine is needed.

While many types of sewing machines can be purchased online, it is a better idea to go into a craft store that sells the machines and Parts Of Sewing Machine.  They usually have a sewing area set up with every machine they sell, including small handheld models for on the go repairs to hems.  They will have a salesperson on staff that can show you the machines, demonstrate them for you and show you the special features of each one.  Keep in mind that sewing machines evolve over time, as does your level of experience and desire for tougher projects.  A good idea is to buy slightly above your basic needs, that way as your needs grow and change, the machine will already be waiting for you with its special features.

I have read the instructions book and I was really amazed to know how many parts are connected to form a single sewing machine. It is really awesome. I was able to change the feet without using any screw driver.
